The SchureMed Powered Beach Chair is the only shoulder surgery positioning chair on the market with a self-contained motor that does not rely on the surgical table for power. Our double-ball joint head positioning system safely secures the patient’s head; even your kyphosis patients. Surgical beach chair adjusts from 0-90° in 8 seconds in a slow, controlled movement. 2″ deluxe pad set provides complete patient comfort. Motion-control technology eliminates manual patient positioning with a simple push-button hand control. 1,350 lbs. of lift securely supports arthroscopy patients up to 500 lbs. Attaches to ANY operating room table with our integrated, adjustable mounting clamps. Lateral brace included.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Become familiar with the features of patient positioning device before use with a patient. Always practice use on a nurse, physician or appropriate volunteer prior to using clinically.

Shoulder Chair Insertion and Operation For Surgical Tables with Non-Removable Back Sections

  1. Rotate surgical table 180°; lock surgical table to the floor; press reverse orientation button on hand control
  2. Lower leg section to 90° or remove the leg sections of the operating room surgical table. Slide chair completely onto the side rails. Lock by turning the handles to the right on both sides of the chair.
  3. Reverse surgical table pad so flat end piece covers the perineal cutout
    Caution! Remove chair prior to raising leg — Severe damage can occur to chair and/or operating room table.
  4. Plug chair into a 110V outlet, then push down on hand control to lower chair to supine position
    Caution! Do not raise table section below beach chair as this will damage the chair.
Shoulder Chair Insertion and Operation For Surgical Tables with Removable Back Sections 
  1. Remove head and back sections of the operating room surgical table. Slide chair completely onto the side rails. Lock by turning the handles to the right on both sides of the chair.
  2. Plug chair into a 110V outlet, then push down on hand control to lower chair to supine position
Positioning Patient in Chair
  1. To raise patient, push the up button on the hand control
  2. To lower patient, push the down button on the hand control
Shoulder Panel Removal and Insertion
  1. To remove shoulder panels turn top and bottom panel latches down to unlocked positions
  2. Hold handle with one hand and lift plunger up, slide panel straight back to remove
  3. To insert panel slide on track and panel will snap lock. Then turn top and bottom panel latches to locked positions.
Lateral Brace
  1.  To position the Lateral Brace, remove the shoulder panel on the operative side and slide the brace into the clamps. Adjust lateral brace to fit each patient. Lock tight by turning the locking handles to the right.

Prior to Patient Transfer
With the surgical table in a level position, adjust the headrest assembly as follows to prepare for a patient transfer.

Step 1
Loosen Ball Joint Locking Lever (3), and position the support post all the way down and centered in the relation to the shoulder chair. Tighten the Locking Lever (3) when the support post is in the desired position.

Step 2
Loosen Locking Lever (1) on the sliding mechanism and adjust the headpiece up or down the support post to accommodate for the height of the patient.
NOTICE: DO NOT fully secure the locking handle at this time.

Step 3
To loosen the head section move the Locking Lever (1) to the neutral position on the double ball joint. Then position the head rest where it is centered with the support post and level with the shoulder chair pad.

When the head rest is in the desired position, move the Locking Lever (1) either clockwise or counterclockwise to lock the double ball joint and fix the head section.

Step 4
Patient Transfer and Preparation

Use the following procedure to transfer a patient and prepare the patient for shoulder surgery and/or manipulation:

Transfer patient and loosely secure the patient's head with the Velcro restraint straps.

  • Ensure that the headrest slides up and down freely on the support post.  Loosen slide mechanism Locking Lever (B). Failure to do so could result in patient injury.
  • Bring the patient to a seated position. Make final adjustments to the headrest using Locking Levers (A), (B) and (C). Once the headrest is properly adjusted, lock all levers and secure the head in place with the Velcro restraint straps.
  • Place the unaffected arm on a raised armboard
  • Release the shoulder panel supporting the affected shoulder by pulling the spring loaded plunger and remove the panel straight back
  • Add the lateral brace on affected side by attaching it to the back of the chair

The maximum load placed on the product may not exceed the appropriate proportion of a patient weighing 500 lbs. Restrictions result from the permissible overall load, among other things, of accessory rails when using operating tables with a low maximum load capacity. Cleaning Recommendation
Follow current Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Journal Guidelines for proper cleaning and disinfection procedure.

Adhere to standards for blood-borne pathogens from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Use recommended protective clothing, gloves, masks and eye protection to clean accessory.

CAUTION
Strictly read/follow manufacturer’s directions for cleaning fluids. DO NOT use cleaners containing phenolics.

  1. Remove major contaminants from accessory with disposable materials. Follow appropriate bio-hazard waste disposal procedures.
  2. Apply cleaning fluid liberally to entire accessory and wipe with clean, lint-free cloth until all moisture and cleaning fluid is removed from accessory
  3. Let accessory dry
